SUMMARY:Traditional Natural Dying
DESCRIPTION:Join Babs Behan\, founder of Botanical Inks\, for a two-day introduction to the basics of making and using organic natural dyes. This course will take a traditional approach to natural dyeing\, using 100% plant based recipes\, without any synthetic chemicals or metals. This practice prioritises natural\, locally sourced\, non-toxic materials with a focus on biodegradability. \nThis will include making natural dyes from traditional dye plants\, herbal dyes and wild plants from the gardens at Hawkwood along with natural mordants such as rhubarb leaf and oak gall\, as well as colour modifiers from acidic plants and alkalis from wood ash. \nA collection of cellulose and protein fibres including organic UK-grown peace silk and organic European unbleached cotton or linen swatches will be provided and included in the cost for making a collection of dye samples with.
